1 EGO BANKNOTE
HOW THE SHED 'EGO
BANKNOTE' CAME TO BE...
Here’s how Shed describes the
birth of a new currency…
The concept of money is
fascinating! It's only worth what
we all AGREE it's worth.
So I wondered whether it would
be possible (and even legal) to
produce and launch my own
currency. I designed my notes to
contain images from my life and
called each one "ONE EGO".
I then found a special printing press and the right paper before making a limited edition run.
Because people pay real money for my currency, it now has a real world exchange rate. This exchange rate for
ONE EGO has consistently been better than many real world currencies’ exchange rates, and has beaten the
Euro from the day the EGO BANKNOTE first went on sale.
Each note is a contemporary work of art in itself, beautifully designed with intricate detail by Lucy Nunn and Tobie
Snowdowne, founder partners of leading design consultancy 'Two Create'. The note contains many symbols and
messages connected with my life, some hidden and some more overt. The television represents my time working
in the media and the fried breakfast conveys the period when I worked on the morning show ‘The Big Breakfast’.
The back of the note displays images related to my philosophies about ideas creation, portraying my idol, Walt
Disney, plus some life mottos.
The notes measure five inches by three inches and are a strictly limited edition. Only two thousand were ever made,
and only around one hundred exist today. They are litho printed on high quality 105gsm Tyvek paper and hot foil
blocked with the Shed logo. The notes are sealed meaning they are water resistant and feel silky to the touch.
